For Alan Tuohey, co-owner of the successful Refreshment Rooms, October may have been very wet through incessant rain, but for him it has been very dry as he has dedicated the month to being an alcohol free period to help him raise donations for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Refreshment Rooms began life in Rock Ferry in 2012, when co-owners Ian Joyce and Alan Tuohey developed a successful Gastro Pub menu. They have now brought their cuisines to the customers of Woodside Ferry Village on the Wirral waterfront.
To date Alan has raised in excess of £1,550 but is still looking to add more donations before the end of the month. He said, “Like many people I have always enjoyed having a social drink, sometimes at home and often at the races, but for this October I have been asking for support in having a completely dry month.
"Through this I am raising as much money as I can for Macmillan Cancer Support, which is a truly worthwhile organisation providing essential physical, financial and emotional support to help people living with cancer.”
In raising donations Alan was given by local Wirral photographer, Tom Kershaw, an image of the Woodside Ferry Terminal, a landscape photograph taken as the sun began to rise over the River Mersey.
The image was auctioned and this was successfully bid for and won by Sharon Stanton, MD at Woodside Ferry Village, the new waterfront food and drink venue in which The Refreshment Rooms is aptly one of its key food concessions.
Sharon said, “We are delighted to add our support to Alan in this project to raise as much money as he can for this cause. Alan chose to base his second food operation in Wirral here at Woodside Ferry Village, which has proved a very popular attraction for visitors to the venue since we opened in June.
“The photograph is a very atmospheric view of Woodside at dawn and we were delighted to have won the auction and it will now have pride of place within Woodside Ferry Village.”
Following the auction, the Woodside sunrise image was presented to Woodside Ferry Village by Alan’s two very proud daughters, who recently visited the venue.
